N-SCALE TOPOGRAPHY

MFA Thesis Installation
Thesis Advisor: Meg Mitchell

An idea of a place becomes entangled in the crude bindings of physical material; the object is the
gravesite of its thinking. Here, assertion of its pre-determined scale (one to one-hundred forty-eight) is a ritualized admission of
failed transmutation; wood fiber is wood fiber. In reading patterns in a thing, we form a eulogy that partially reconstructs its former vitality; only once we admit the flat artifice of the object can we penetrate its material surface and revive its hidden /
flexible / trembling / generative capacity.
