INTERLOCK OSB
The Interlock OSB shelving system brings together the details of woodworking craft tradition with the efficiency and precision of digitally-controlled manufacturing. Here, mortise and tenon joints are adapted for use with CNC routing of sheet materials such as plywood and oriented-strand-board. The dimensions of each unit (47.5” x 95”) utilize typically-sized North American sheet material with extreme efficiency. A set of three bookshelf units will use 91% of its raw material. Compared to the 60 to 70% material efficiency in many medium-scale millwork productions, the Interlock OSB system can be extremely cost effective. Each unit’s assembly relies on simple mortise and tenon joints with off the shelf hex nut and socket cap screw fasteners. A unit can be assembled by two people within thirty minutes, while requiring only a 3/16” hex-head driver bit.
